In the last two decades much of the debate about copyright law has been about how the rights of creators should be balanced against the rights of the tech industry, particularly intermediaries. This has led to unresolved disputes over where the balance should be struck between the rights of copyright owners and of copyright users.
AI has introduced new, and fundamental, challenges to copyright, which have given rise to a discussion of a different type of balance – between productivity which AI claims to bring and copyright rights.
This session will investigate whether these issues can be reconciled and what the future holds for copyright in a post-productivity economy.
